Counseling & Psychotherapy

(Click the arrow to see the next testimonial.)

So many people from many walks of life have been supportive, shared their lessons-learned, been role models, and provided opportunities for me to learn-by-doing. My own spirit has given me a stick-to-it attitude and my family taught me to strive for excellence. I admire each person who successfully heals their wounds (so that they also provide for and protect others.) My respect for their achievement reinforces my motivation to continue being a psychotherapist.

Educational Writing

Like all writers, I do it because I cannot not write.

You might ask, “How is writing a service?” The answer: My writing serves a greater good. It serves to help others help themselves, their relationships and their communities.

Transformative Psychotherapy and Telehealth

Imagine the talk-therapy of a loved one. Remember your own. It is common to use therapy more than once. There are so many ways that therapists work. There are a multitude of settings, including Telehealth. Each clinician-client experience is unique. What explains good results among the different settings, methods and persons?

Read stories told by experienced psychotherapists about the power of empathy to transform oneself and relationships. Learn about how talk-therapy has evolved from the early days through to Telehealth. Published in October 2021 as an eBook, my dissertation and the accompanying journal article (https://doi.org/10.20935/AL3883) have had 3,651 downloads across 151 countries. Why? People want to know: How do adults change in a fundamental way and how can Telehealth support that? The comprehensive theory came out of 23 interviews of expert therapists, review of 339 publications (271 citations), and my own 40 years of practice.

I earned my doctorate at the Western Institute for Social Research (WISR). The college’s mission is to provide “community-involved adults with high-quality, personalized, learner-centered online and/or onsite graduate education and degrees in a collaborative, multicultural learning community. WISR engages in community education, with a commitment to action-oriented inquiry that combines theory and practice to achieve community improvement and social justice.”
